Who we are

What we keep

• Account: your email address (so you can sign in with a one-time code), your name, and the names your family uses for each other.
• What you share with your family: messages, posts, photos (in the feed and in chats), voice messages and the words they contain, notes and hearts.
• Family settings: who is in your family, each person's role and age range (not birthdays), school-time and sleep-time schedules, daily game time, reports and blocks.
• Games and lessons: game moves and results your family can see (for example, the colored dots from the daily word puzzle, never the letters), drawings for Draw & Guess, and which lessons someone has finished.
• Family Kitchen: your family's meal plan, who signed up to help, and your shopping list. Never what anyone eats, how much, or anything about their body.
• Journal: entries you write or record. Only the writer can see their journal: not family, not guardians, and not OurDot.
• Feedback you send us: your note or voice note, the screen you were on, the app version, and your role and age range.
• Device and notification info: your settings (like bigger screens) and a notification address for each phone you use.
• Calls: that a call started in a chat, not what was said or shown.

Photos, voice and words

• Photos are re-saved on your phone before upload, which removes hidden location data. We never add beauty filters.
• When the phone supports it, voice is turned into words on the phone itself. Recordings are never sent anywhere to be transcribed, and we never build voiceprints.
• The "Pause for a sec?" kindness check and the journal's "are you okay?" check run on your phone. If a child posts after a pause, guardians see how many times in their weekly summary, not the words. If the journal check shows help resources, nothing is sent anywhere and nobody is told.

How we use it

Only to run OurDot for your family: to sign you in, show your family what you share, keep school and sleep locks working, deliver alerts, review reports, and fix and improve the app. We don't build profiles to sell, show ads, or use anyone's information to train outside AI models.

Children

• A child can join only through an invite from their guardian, and the guardian gives consent when they set up the child's account. Guardians choose each child's age range and settings.
• We collect only what a family app needs to work, and use children's information only to run OurDot for their family. We never show ads to children or share their information with advertisers.
• We don't ask for a child's own email. Kids sign in with their guardian's email plus a tag (like you+leo@gmail.com), so codes always go to the guardian.
• Guardians can see what their kids share with the family. A child's journal stays private to the child.
• Guardians can review the information we hold about their child, ask us to delete it, or stop further collection by deleting the child's account from the Family tab or emailing help@ourdot.app.

Who handles your information

• Supabase stores accounts and family content, protected by rules that let only your family read it.
• LiveKit carries live voice and video calls. Calls are never recorded.
• Expo, Apple and Google deliver notifications. Alerts say who wrote, never what they wrote.
• A small OurDot review team can see an item only when someone reports it, and sees feedback people send us.
• We share information only when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety. For example, the law requires us to report child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

How long we keep it

• Your content stays until you delete it or delete your account.
• Draw & Guess drawings are deleted after 30 days.
• Voice notes in feedback are deleted when we close that piece of feedback.
• When an account is deleted, its posts, photos, voice messages, messages and journal are deleted too. A nightly cleanup removes any leftover files.

Your choices

• Delete your account: Family tab → "Delete my account." If you're the only guardian of a family with other people in it, add another guardian first so no child is left without one.
• Delete a child's account: guardians can do this from the Family tab.
• Ask a question or request a copy of your information: help@ourdot.app.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
