Guardian notice and consent
Please read this before you start a family or invite a child. It’s short on purpose.
You’re a parent or legal guardian of any child you invite. You consent to OurDot collecting and using your child’s information, as described below, only to run OurDot for your family. You can review, delete, or stop collection of your child’s information at any time.

What we collect from a child, and why
- The name and age range you choose, and what the kids call each person, so your family sees the right names.
- What your child shares with the family: posts, photos, voice notes and their words, messages, notes and hearts, so your family can see them.
- Games and lessons: moves, results and finished lessons, so games and lessons work.
- Journal entries, kept private to your child.
- Feedback your child sends us, so we can improve OurDot.
- A notification address for each device, so alerts can be delivered.
We don’t ask for a child’s own email, phone number, birthday or location. Kids sign in with your email plus a tag (like you+leo@gmail.com), so their sign-in codes come to you. Photos have hidden location data removed before upload. Voice is turned into words on the phone when it supports it, and we never build voiceprints.
Who handles it
We never sell children’s information, never use it for ads, and never share it with advertisers. Service providers that are integral to running OurDot handle it on our behalf: Supabase (secure storage), LiveKit (live calls, never recorded), and Expo, Apple and Google (delivering notifications, which say who wrote, never what). We share information only if the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety, including reporting child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
How long we keep it
Until it’s deleted. Draw & Guess drawings are deleted after 30 days, voice notes in feedback when we close that feedback, and everything else when it or the account is deleted.
Your rights
- Review what your child shares with the family at any time in the app (journals stay private to the child), or ask us for a copy at help@ourdot.app.
- Delete your child’s account and everything in it from the Family tab, or ask us to.
- Stop further collection by deleting your child’s account. You can also remove anyone from your family at any time.
We’ll respond to requests about a child’s information within 2 business days. If this notice changes in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
How you give consent
When you start a family, you confirm you’re a parent or legal guardian and agree to this notice. Before you invite your first child, you write a two-sentence consent note by hand on any paper (the app shows the words), sign and date it, and send a photo of it in the app. No printer needed, though you can print the consent form if you prefer. The OurDot team checks it, usually within 1 business day. Then, when you invite a child, you choose their age range and they join using your email, so every sign-in code for that child comes to you.
